SCORING METHODOLOGY
Film, like all art, is subjective. What I love, others may hate, and there's inherent beauty in that, driving debates and discussions. My scoring approach reflects my personal view (how did I feel? what is the rewatchability?) while also incorporating an objective viewpoint (pacing, editing, score, writing, etc.); my scores/reviews are simply that, my own interpretation of that work.
5/5 (10/10) - MASTERPIECE
The highest rating I give to the best of the best in the industry
While no movie is truly perfect and each have their flaws, these are the closest in my opinion
Some of my 5/5 scores: The Matrix, The Dark Knight, Fight Club, Se7en, The Shawshank Redemption, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Inception
4.5/5 (9/10) - AMAZING
I highly recommend to check out these very impressive films, whether it was an exceptional take on an existing idea or high-risk new idea that paid off in the masses
Some of my 4.5/5 scores: Casino Royale, Moneyball, The Martian, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and Batman Begins
4/5 (8/10) - GREAT
These movies are worth adding to your watchlist, the many pros outweigh the flaws
Some of my 4/5 scores: The Avengers, The Sixth Sense, Back to the Future Part II, Creed III
3.5/5 (7/10) - GOOD
Could these movies have been better? Absolutely! But it was still a good time and you would recommend this to a friend
Some of my 3.5/5 scores: Wonder Woman, Thor, 21, Jumanji, and The Day After Tomorrow
3/5 (6/10) - OKAY
The bare minimum for what I consider a film I liked, with heavy "but" or "beware of" baggage
Some of my 3/5 scores: Iron Man 2, Glass, National Treasure, and Fast & Furious 6
2.5/5 (5/10) - MEH
Almost a decent movie - bland and lazy, something you may have on in the background
Some of my 2.5/5 scores: Black Adam, The Fate of the Furious, Resident Evil, Rush Hour 3, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and Joe Dirt
2/5 (4/10) - BAD
What more needs to be sad? These movies may not be the most brutal to sit through, but are still easily forgettable
Some of my 2/5 scores: Jurassic World: Dominion, Batman Forever, Cars 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Grown Ups 2
1.5/5 (3/10) - TERRIBLE
These movies may have seemed like a good idea on paper, but are just awful
Some of my 1.5/5 scores: F9, Justice League, Pitch Perfect 3, The Twilight Saga: New Moon
1/5 (2/10) - TRAINWRECK
One step up from the worst score possible, these movies managed to do a couple things right but overall are a complete mess
Some of my 1/5 scores: Green Lantern, Transformers: The Last Knight, Batman and Robin, and Space Jam: A New Legacy
0.5/5 (1/10) - DUMPSTER FIRE
The lowest rating I can give (generally because most sites don't allow a zero)
Movies in this bucket are riddled with flaws, incoherent, and simply embarrassing to cinema
Some of my 0.5/5 scores: Catwoman, Elektra, and Disaster Movie
